China Education Online News On November 21, 2019, the "SCO Demonstration Zone: International Commercial Dispute Settlement Mechanism and Forum on Frontier Issues of International Law" hosted by the College of Law of Qingdao University and undertaken by the Center for Global Governance and International Law of Qingdao University was successfully held at Qingdao University. More than 80 experts and scholars from Shandong University, Ocean University of China, Shandong University of Science and Technology, Qingdao University and other universities, as well as practical experts from Qingdao Maritime Court, Qingdao Arbitration Commission, Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Justice, major law firms and other units attended the event.

On the morning of November 21, Cai Yingwen, professor and dean of the College of Law of Qingdao University, presided over the opening ceremony of the seminar. Kong Weijin, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and vice president of Qingdao University, delivered a speech on behalf of the organizer. President Kong extended a warm welcome to the guests, thanked the guests for their strong support for this forum, and introduced the academic nature of this forum, affirmed its important theoretical value and significance, and wished this forum a success and great achievements. Professor Xiao Yongping, Professor Lu Song, Professor Xu Guojian and Dean Cai Yingwen jointly inaugurated the Qingdao University Research Center for Global Governance and International Law, which will vigorously promote the improvement of the academic level of international law in Qingdao University.

This forum is divided into two units. The first unit is a discussion on the international commercial dispute settlement mechanism and the frontier issues of international law, and the second unit is about the foreign-related high-end legal talent training mechanism.

The first unit was hosted by Yu Guangjin, Director of the Foreign-related Arbitration Division of Qingdao Arbitration Commission. Lu Song, Professor of China Foreign Affairs University and Executive Vice President of Private International Law Research Association of China Law Society, delivered a keynote speech on the theme of "The Most Important Transnational Dispute Resolution Mechanism--Arbitration". Xiao Yongping, professor of Wuhan University and executive vice president of the Private International Law Research Association of the China Law Society, delivered a keynote speech on "The Legal Basis and Countermeasures of the US'Long Arm Jurisdiction". Professor Xu Guojian, Distinguished Dean of the College of International Law, Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, and Executive Vice President of the Private International Law Research Association of the China Law Society, delivered a keynote speech on the theme of "Global Circulation System of Foreign Judgments--Commentary on the 2019 Hague Judgment Convention". Wang Ailing, Chief Judge of the Trial Division of Qingdao Maritime Court, and Professor Ou Bin, Deputy Dean of Qingdao Free Trade Zone Research Institute of Qingdao University, made wonderful comments.

The second unit was presided over by Man Hongjie, Deputy Dean of Law School of Shandong University. Dong Yue, Deputy Dean of Law School of Ocean University of China, gave a keynote speech on "Experience and Prospect of Undergraduate Law Programs in Sino-US Cooperation". Hao Haiqing, Director of the Research Center for Global Governance and International Law of Qingdao University, gave a keynote speech on the topic of "Qingdao Program for Legal Education [Integration] Student Training". Assistant Professor Zhang Chao of Law School of Qingdao University and Man Hongjie, Deputy Dean of Law School of Shandong University shared their teaching experience. Qiang Yongmei, Management Director of Shandong Deheng Law Firm, and Ding Yan, Professor of Law School of Qingdao University, gave wonderful comments.

Hao Haiqing, director of the Center for Global Governance and International Law of Qingdao University, presided over the closing ceremony of the forum, and Cai Yingwen, professor of Qingdao University and dean of the Law School, delivered the closing speech. "SCO Demonstration Zone: Forum on International Dispute Settlement Mechanism and Frontier Issues of International Law" came to a successful conclusion.

The success of this conference is of great significance. Experts and scholars participating in the conference have in-depth discussions on the new development of the international dispute settlement mechanism, frontier issues of international law such as court jurisdiction and enforcement preservation, so as to provide legal protection for better serving the SCO. The "Speak, Talk, Discuss" plan put forward at this meeting provides a practical solution for Qingdao to develop foreign-related legal service talents under the framework of the SCO Demonstration Zone. The participating universities and the Qingdao Arbitration Commission , Qingdao Maritime Court and various law firms have expressed that they will actively strengthen legal exchanges in Qingdao, share resources, and jointly promote the legal community of Qingdao to provide legal protection for the SCO Demonstration Zone. This meeting will greatly promote the cooperation among Law School of Qingdao University, Qingdao University Global Governance and International Law Research Center and the Court, Arbitration Commission and other well-known law firms also marks that Qingdao University has opened a new chapter in the construction of the SCO Economy and Trade Demonstration Zone, in which legal services guarantee economic and trade cooperation.
